TMJ & Surgery

Temporomandibular dysfunction or TMD is related sometimes to your bite and how your teeth fit together. Sometimes due to stress in your life. TMD is treated on an individual basis and sometimes requires special x-rays. Some patients are successfully treated with braces, but in some cases there is the need for extensive dental work, physical therapy, joint surgery and/or occlusal splint therapy (similar to a custom made mouthguard). Dr. Cohen now is able to construct his own custom mouth guards using a digital impression. This is tomorrow’s orthodontic technology available exclusively at his offices.

Orthodontic and orthognathic (jaw) surgery is often required for severe skeletal discrepancies that cannot be successfully corrected with just braces.
