Mummies with braces?…..Yes, that’s right!

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, archaeologists have discovered mummies with crude metal bands wrapped around their teeth. The quest for straight teeth is certainly not a recent thing…..”braces” date back to ancient man….However, the techniques sure have changed.. So straight teeth have been on our minds for a long time. It’s just the methods that have changed.

In the early 1900s, bands that fit around the teeth were made of silver, gold and platinum…Now that’s what you call real bling! However, the metals were so soft that adjustments had to be made very frequently….and treatment time went on for years and years. Not like it is now when you only have to come in every four or six weeks and most cases are completed in just 2 years.

Just think of the advances that have been made….we use the specialized Damon bracket that moves teeth more quickly and Invisalign that makes it seem you aren’t having orthodontics at all…We’ve come a long, long, way.
