Museum of American Glass

Located at 1501 Glasstown Rd, Millville, NJ 08332. In the heart of the Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center, the Museum of American Glass showcases the country’s most comprehensive collection of American glass. With over 18,000 square feet of exhibition space, the museum features over 20,000 pieces from artists including Dale Chihuly, Paul Stankard, and Tiffany.

The museum is part of WheatonArts, a not-for-profit arts organization with an international reputation for its collections of historic glass. The museum’s mission is to educate and engage artists and diverse audiences. Through public programs and classes, WheatonArts focuses on the glass as a medium of art and culture. Its programs include interpretive demonstrations of various craft mediums, collectors’ seminars, and museum exhibits. In addition, WheatonArts provides professional interpretations of artists’ work.

A variety of glassmaking tools are on display. The museum also features an extensive research library and archival documents. The museum is open Tue – Wed. There are special exhibitions on display throughout the year. Some exhibitions are specifically devoted to the state of New Jersey and its seminal role in American glassmaking.

The museum has a rotating collection of 7,500 pieces of glass. These include Tiffany lamps, rolling pins, light bulbs, and conventional glassware. Many of the pieces in the museum are arranged chronologically. The museum also has a hot glass studio, which is modeled after the original 1888 factory. Live glass-blowing demonstrations are held in the glass furnace adjacent to the entrance.

The museum features a Gallery of Fine Crafts that represents established artists and emerging artists. The galleries also include the Marble Area, which features marble towers in different sizes. In addition, the museum features an Emanation studio, where artists create new glassworks in response to the site. He researched glass museums in Pennsylvania and New York and found a large collection of glass in a museum in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
